You can all see the blurb; a young newly wedded woman disappears from a gypsy community and our investigator gets called in to find out what happened to her. I don't think the story was exciting or interesting enough to be dragged out to 500 plus pages. A crime thriller/mystery novel needs to be tighter than this or have several other sub-plots going on to retain the reader's interest. Towards the end I admit to not caring about the who, what, where and why but rather which was going to be next off my tbr pile. Very enjoyable story, told from two view-points, a struggling private investigator and a teenage Gypsy boy. There was the added interest of learning more about the travelling Gypsy culture.The intrigue and suspense involved in the investigation was well paced with a very clever twist at the end. This author gets into the thoughts and lives of different people and presents them with sympathy and understanding - I love her books. If you haven't read "The Tenderness of Wolves", I really recommend it also.
I slogged trough the fist 32 chapters, then gave up. I have a pile of better books waiting for me.
