I really like this book, I like the art, very striking and colorful. I like the chickens and their expressions. I like the setting of the bedtime story, and the involvement of the little chicken in the stories and how he can't bear to let the characters be duped again, and so interrupts and gives his own (improved) endings. I also like how it ends with Papa asleep while little chicken tells his own tale. This book is about a little red chicken who wants his father to read him a bedtime story. The father reads Hansel and Gretel with the condition that the little red chicken doesn't interrupt the story. The little red chicken can't help but interrupt the story as well as several other stories that the father tries to read. Then the little chicken tries to tell a story and immediately puts the father to sleep. The theme of this book is to respect the story teller. Since this book mentions several fairy tails, it would be useful to tach a classroom about the elements of stories. After you teach them, you can ask them to identify characters, the setting, the plot, etc.

My eight-year-old says 5 stars! She loves all things chicken, though. :). Very cute.
