About book The Hen Of The Baskervilles: A Meg Langslow Mystery (2013)
I love this series but I think this one is not quite up to the five-star oepning novel, Murder with Peacocks. Andrews has the problem of all long-standing series: she has so many familiar characters, all of whom need to be included in the current story, that the mystery itself may seem to take second place to the community in which it occurs. On the other hand, any book which features Meg Langlow's mother is okay with me - a character who has become more nuanced as the series has progressed.I would love Andrews to write a short story from Meg's mother's point of view! Meg Langslow is Vice-Chairman of Caerphilly County’s answer to the state fair, the Unfair. Two rare chickens are stolen from the chicken tent, a giant pumpkins is smashed, and a valuable quilt disappears from the arts-and-crafts barn all on the first day of the event. While patrolling the fairgrounds to prevent further trouble, Meg and her husband hear shot and then find the body of Brett Riorden. When Meg’s friend and Brett's estranged wife Molly is arrested for the murder, Meg thinks the police aren't taking it seriously and begins to do her own investigation to clear her and save the fair. This was a fun book to read. It moved right along and has some very quirky characters. I enjoyed it very much.
