About book The Grim Company (2013)

Of course you can't help being reminded of Joe Abercrombie's work and not since the young Kvothe have I seen a wanna-be hero as cocksure as Cole. This book is neither as hard as Abercrombie's work (but some fights are close to Logen's handiwork) nor as brilliant as the Kingkiller Chronicle but it can surely stand on it's own so I recommend giving it a try. Now I'm waiting for book two, which is luckily due soon. The story was actually really compelling. I had to know what happened next. Great world building, very interesting characters, lots of fun secondary characters. Unfortunately, this author likes to gross out the reader. He loves to talk about peeing, hemorroids, having trouble peeing, snot dripping down your face, throbbing hemorroids and their size, and how bad people smell. It kept making me go, "Ewwww!" as I was reading. Seriously, a few times I felt the urge to gag because what the author was describing was so revolting.I read to the end because the story was good. The "Sword of the North" kept stealing every scene he was in. And I really want to know the background of Jarek. If I could somehow edit out all the gross bodily functions, then I would recommend it. Since I can't, I cannot recommend this story.

Do You like book The Grim Company (2013)?

Hints at lots to come in the future, its quite close cutting to the title - grim is very apt.

I can see the appeal but I could get more than half way through.

More like YA fantasy; I was surprised.
