About book The Gospel According To Coco Chanel: Life Lessons From The World's Most Elegant Woman (2009)
I enjoyed this book in that it did cover Coco's life and her life was amazing! To me, it was kind of fluffy and I felt the author wrote from a kind of self depreciating point of view of herself as an American woman/housewife. I didn't really get where she was coming from and so I found some of her perspectives on how Coco would have viewed life kind of odd and I had a hard time relating to them. This book DID really make me want to read more about Coco so I am ordering a real biography on her which I think if someone is interested in her should probably go for instead of this book. Sloppy and poorly put together, it was still enjoyable up until the last quarter of the book. Once she reached the WWII-era of Coco's life, the author started slandering Chanel and saying how everyone hated her, and spent a grand total of 3 pages on how horrible and stupid Chanel was, without much of an explanation as to why this was the popular opinion at the time. It was a bit of a surprise, since the author had spent the last 200+ pages waxing poetic about every blade of grass Chanel stepped on. Ultimately, I think this book was written more for the author's ego as opposed to trying to convey any sort of message to the reader.
