About book The Global Achievement Gap: Why Our Kids Don't Have The Skills They Need For College, Careers, And Citizenship—and What We Can Do About It (2008)

This was a very thought- provoking study of our nation's schools and the fact that they are not teaching students the real skills they need to enter a global marketplace and compete. For me, it has put this concern on my radar, and I am going to be mindful of the issues as my boys get older and get into more advanced coursework. They need to be taught critical thinking skills rather than forced to memorize old content. We read this as part of a GCISD administrative book study. What an appropriate text for school leaders to read collectively. Our country is aiming toward outdated and irrelevant targets and indicators of success, and until we have the collective will to change course, my belief in the viability of our education system is limited. I'd highly encourage educators AND parents to read this thought provoking book and share it with any/all who care about America's future.
