I went into this one knowing only 2 things about it. 1. That it was sci-fi and 2. that it was said to be pretty good. I think that was the best part of reading this book; going in blind. I had no idea what it was about, I had no idea that it involved zombies or kids on an army base, or that it was a post-apocalyptic fairy tale with horror elements. All in all I thought it was fantastic. Definitely not your usual zombie book. I love when a writer finds a way to put a new spin on an old monster theme. I liked the gloom, and the questioning morals, and the neatly wrapped package. This story didn't come off as a cliché and I honestly did find myself questioning where it was going to end up.I have to admit that I mostly enjoyed it from the kid's perspective, Melanie, rather than some of the adults that are used much more often in the second half of the book. Melanie's point of view is what turns this zombie horror into a sweet little story about a little girl who is different and doesn't realize it because she basically grew up in a bubble. It's a fun one, go ahead now and check it out. Not every gift is a blessing...Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. The Girl With All the Gifts is a groundbreaking thriller, emotionally charged and gripping from beginning to end. i really liked The Girl With All The Gifts; it was a truly thoughtful and thought-provoking look at life after an apocalypse. the characters were well written and thought-out, with their own motivations and agenda.
