About book The Girl In The Steel Corset [plus Bonus Novella] (2012)
I just...ugh. Much was stolen, from the general idea (X-men! League of Extraordinary Gentlemen! the sci-fi show Sanctuary!) to the plot points. It just felt 100% predictable. Obviously, I'm a 28 year old reading a young adult novel, so maybe a seventh grader would feel differently, but oy. The original science of organites and the reference to finding them after the Journey to the Center of the Earth was incredibly spotty, and I don't do well with lackluster deus-ex-machina science. "It is because it is!" doesn't cut it with me. I also hate that the main character is supposed to seem sooooo independent but is soooooo not, and relies heavily on two gentlemen in the story. That is not what I want to see in young adult literature written (mostly) for girls with a really cool cover. This book was nothing special. I mean I can't even rant about it. It was just aggressively not anything special. It was like a watered down Cassandra Clare book, and that feels about as insulting as I can get. None of the characters were that remarkable, the world was a bit confused (not the best introduction to steampunk), and none of the characters felt very new. My Edition happened to be the one with the 100-page prequel novella at the beginning, which I didn't realize until I was fifty pages in and wondering why the plot was moving so fast, and that was a complete waste of time which probably left a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of the book. Do I wish I'd never read it? Kinda. I just felt like it was an utter waste of my time, and I'm not going to recall any of this book in a few months.
Do You like book The Girl In The Steel Corset [plus Bonus Novella] (2012)?
I first read this book in High School, after seeing it in a book store I couldn;t wait to order it at the library. I loved it. I am rereading it now, because I found out there were more books written. I thought it was charming, romantic and very neat! I am twenty one now and I still find it very endearing to my heart. I read the comments from above and I disagree. But, I also write fanfiction so i have no room to be upset if something is similar to something else.
