Audiobook review: I think I was drawn into this story so much more because of listening to the audiobook than I would have just reading it myself. The story was very good for being the author's first novel. Lush details and wonderful descriptions of the setting in India. I normally only listen to nonfiction audiobooks, such as biographies, but I am glad I stumbled upon this format when the book was suggested to me. Really enjoyed the narrator's voice of Rakhee because it felt like she was a friend telling me this tragic, mysterious story over a long weekend. I really enjoyed this book. I picked it up because I am a fairytale lover, and because I've been wanting to read more diverse books--and this book seemed like the perfect fit. I felt that the writing was simple and pretty, and conveyed emotions and descriptions easily. I found myself mostly interested in the characters and discovering their secrets. I enjoyed almost every character, except for the main character. I am not really used to reading books with a narrator as young as ten (I actually enjoyed her narrating more when she was older) and I found it hard to sympathize with Rakhee the most. I enjoyed the ending of the book the most. I was very fond of the way that the characters all found their own separate resolutions to their problems. Not everyone made good choices, but they all came to some kind of resolution with their problems. A lot of these were bittersweet, but I found myself enjoying this because it came off as very real. The reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 was because, even though I did enjoy this book a lot, it didn't necessarily blow me out of the water. This is mostly just a personal preference, though. I finished this book quickly, and found it very easy to get into. I enjoyed it very much, and would recommend it to friends.
