This was a very enlightening book. It is a sequel to Touching Spirit Bear. It's amazing how the 2 MCs make such a big difference for the better in the school. First, they show some bullies that they won't punch back (always). Cole becomes an amazing person. He even change the mascot from the Snarling Bull Dogs to a Spirit Bear. Obviously, this is an amazing win. Not only that, but Coles dad shows up for this amazing win! And he might join a Circle. This is a truly inspiring book. However, there was a girl who committed suicide because of other rude girls constantly mimicking her. The author should've said about how upset/carefree the rude girls felt after that girl committed suicide. However, there was a powerful sentence or two about the suicide. Something like 'Suicide didn't kill her, the bullies did.' As I said, powerful. And the title 'Return of Spirit Bear' is great. The old man is spirit bear. He carves the school a lifelike spirit bear as their mascot, saving them tons of money. Too bad they couldn't say thank you to him (as far as I know). I enjoyed this book. Going back can always be a scary thing and that is what Cole and Peter face as they return to high school after living in a very isolated place for a year. I read the first book with my students and passed the 2nd book on to those who asked and the one student who read it all the way through in one night really enjoyed it. I figured if he could, I could and yes, I did read it in one sitting. The synopsis of the first book begins this story. While the ending events of this book are a little hard to believe, it still gives hope to those in school who do want to show change from with-in. Perhaps if the students who bullied the 2 students of Columbine had received a gift like Cole had received, the incident might not have happened. The experiences of the past can shape the experiences of the present in order to effect change of the future.
