About book The Further Tale Of Peter Rabbit (2012)

In the spirit of the many prequel-sequel-requel publications comes this new story about Beatrix Potter's most famous character, Peter Rabbit. Emma Thompson was approached to imagine a new adventure to celebrate 110 years since the first publication. She manages to have fun with the character, states that she does not attempt to imitate Miss Potter's prose style, and creates something convincing without causing damage to the original. Eleanor Taylor captures the expansion of Peter's world in her illustrations; she probably stays closer to the original creation than Ms Thompson does. The edition includes a page from the original letter to a young boy where Miss Potter tells the story of Peter the first time, and the exchange of letters between Mr Rabbit and Ms Thompson. I am definitely looking forward to her further further tales of Peter Rabbit.Emma Thompson plaas Peter Rabbit in 'n nuwe avontuur, 110 jaar nadat Beatrix Potter se boekie oorspronklik gepubliseer is. Sy slaag daarin om tegelyk haar eie stempel af te druk en om die gees van die oorspronklike te behou; dieselfde is waar van Eleanor Taylor se illustrasies. 'n Prettige kinderverhaal met 'n stewige vonkel in die oog. I'm normally not one for children's books written by celebrities...although I always end up curious. Emma Thompson's "Further Tale of Peter Rabbit" is more imaginative than most celebrity books and doesn't require you to be a fan (although, admittedly, I love her in her various Jane Austen adaptations) to enjoy the book. It really is a creative retelling of Peter Rabbit and the size of the book and beautiful images make it ideal for storytime for older children. I do wonder if many of the jokes rely on references that North American children may not understand.

I rolled my eyes the entire way through. I can't imagine any child finding this entertaining either.

This was cute and has the added bonus that a CD is enclosed where Emma Thompson reads her book.
