About book The Fell Sword (2014)

I really wanted to like this book. I really tried. But it didn't sate me. I realise that I don't know what the Fell Sword was used for or how it was used. There are different pov's but I couldn't relate to any of the characters or sympathise with them. The first half of the book was boring but the second half picked up a bit. I found myself skimming through the paragraphs and once or twice entire pages. 2.5 stars What happened here, have I fallen into some alternative universe where Miles Cameron's Red Knight story didn't actually exist!!This book had none of the trade mark excitement that the Red Knight did. In fact the Fell Sword is simply a dull, over indulged story that goes on far too long. The main problem is all the different characters, I mean how many does he really need. There are all manner of people in this book, most of whom you have never really heard of and will question their reason for sharing their point of view.Of course multiple POV's works well in literature, such as in The Game Of Thrones. However this is due to all the characters being defined, interesting and working within the confines of a story where each of their actions have an effect on someone else.Where as within the Fell Sword there are a couple of hundred pages that are simply made up of multiple irrelevant events. For example Mortimer the young Magician, until the end of the book does nothing which progresses the story.A good editor could have deleted a couple of hundred pages and there would have been no detrimental impact to the overall book.Another funny attribute is how beautiful everyone is. It actually became quite comical at how often it was mentioned, even if the individual never really came across that way. This is especially true for the female characters, which is a damming insight on Cameron's belief that for a female to have presence she has to be immaculately dressed and presented. Even Sauce became some kind of Xenia warrior princess whose great beauty was what defined her.Don't get me wrong there are still some great characters in the Book such as the Red Knight, Thorn, and Harmidious. But these characters are hidden, pushed to the side line and do not take up as much content as they originally did.The Red Knight was amazing, the Fell Sword, and I hate to say it, is overlong, dull and littered with characters of no relevance or tone. This has not been an enjoyable read.
