About book The Fantastic Secret Of Owen Jester (2010)
Reminds me of a Cleary book but more juiced up, story is set in a small Southern town. The special thing about the author O'Connor is one of her characters is on the last of life journeys, old age, the Grandfather is bed ridden listening to Owen's adventures. Viola the rejected girl character ends up being an important part of the story. For Owen a tinker and maker finding something incredible in the woods, seems like the best secret he could have. Check this out at the library. I liked this book that evoked good memories of childhood summers in the South. While I didn't spend a lot of time catching frogs, our house did back up to a railroad track and we did have a pretty little creek where we spent some good times wading. I think my kids will like reading this one. The action moves along pretty well and I wanted to know what happened to Tooley and the fantastic secret. Great to have a book with no bad words and just good old innocent fun.
