About book The Extra 2%: How Wall Street Strategies Took A Major League Baseball Team From Worst To First (2011)
For me, as a baseball nut, this was a must-read and I give it:* 5 stars in terms of knowledge gleaned* 5 stars for entertainment value. * 5 stars for ease of reading. For most people who aren't as baseball-crazy as me, and who don't have the same thirst for this knowledge that I do, I suspect it is a 3-star book or lower. The writing quality is 2-stars at best. It's coverage of the Wall Street Strategies in the title is 1-star.And it didn't go in to any great depth in to the Rays' 2008 season - 1-star there, too.Hence the average 3-star rating (rounded). You will either love this book (if you are a baseball nut) or, likely, hate it. I would rate this book a 4.5. I love Jonah Keri's writing and based on the title/synopsis figured this would be his version of Moneyball. Where Moneyball was all about the methods the A's were using and less about the franchise in general, The Extra 2% is more about the Rays franchise and what factors have been working against them historically. It is a pretty quick and entertaining read.
