About book The Evolution Of Bruno Littlemore (2011)
Very well written by a chimpanzee called Bruno. I just could not take his falling in love with a human woman and called it quits soon after so I really gave up before getting into it. It appears science fiction (once a genre I love) is no longer for me. Fantasy never was. But Benjamin Hale writes so amazingly well. I await his next book. I hope the genre will be more to my taste. If you do like fantasy, give this one a try. It's long...576 pages. I actually had a hard time giving it 4 stars because of the offensive plot. As Bruno, a chimpanzee, evolves into a more human version of himself,(learning to read, write, and speak) he develops a sexual relationship with his female primatologist. What I liked about the novel was the language and style of Hale. He incorporates everything I find appealing and thought provoking including biblical, cultural, and Shakespearean allusions, challenging vocabulary (I had to check the dictionary many times), and the humorous and philosphical voice of Bruno himself.
