About book The Dumont Diaries (2013)

I love Alessandra Torres writing but this book fell short for me. It is a take on a modern day Pretty Woman minus the tender and caring millionaire. Nathan is very upfront with what he wants from Candy...an emotionless marriage that serves one purpose...appearance. Aside from that she is to expect nothing along the lines of emotional nourishment. She even goes so far as signing off on this agreement to make it legally binding. Yet the girl still falls hard for him with the hope that he will come around. *sigh* The two issues I have with this book is that the heroine comes across as pathetic in every sense of the word and the ending leaves you guessing. Literally. 2 sad sack stars. So, here's what happened. I bought the first book, liked it a lot, so I bought the rest of the series. My intention was to read one part each week for this month. What happened was, I read through the whole series in one night. I just got hooked on the story and needed to know how it was going to end. You know what this series kind of reminded me of? It was like a darker, edgier Pretty Woman with some twists and turns added in. I'm going to focus on what happened after the first installment, so if you need to see what happened in that novella, see my review here. So, at the end of the first book, Candace is left deciding on whether or not she would sign the agreement. It was never really a question though. Nathan promised to provide health care to her father during the agreement, so that was part of the hook that made her stay. It also helped that they had wild attraction to each other and that he gave her the strongest orgasms of her life. How could she not sign? They continue on in their twisted life. Nathan goes to and from work and Candace is expected to be at his beck and call at any time. It becomes quite a lonely life for Candace, but she's developed a friendship with Nathan's bodyguard, Drew. I called it! I just knew that Drew was going to play a bigger role in the story. He gave Candace warmth, kindness and tenderness that Nathan couldn't. Of course, having another person involved in the situation added more complications. But, Drew also has a different link to Nathan. And this is where the big "ah ha" comes in. Drew's sister was Nathan's big love. I don't want to ruin the story by giving the details, but there is a reason why Candace was selected for this union. The role she plays not only helps Nathan professionally, but in a very personal way as well. I'll be honest, I'm not quite sure I understood the set up for the professional reasons he needed Candace. It's hard to explain without revealing too much, but I felt the details of that part were a bit random. I also felt that the situation with Drew was a bit abandoned in the end. The sex was still as hot in the rest of the series as it was in the first novella. In fact, I'd say towards the end it got better because, by that point it was more than just sex for Nathan and Candace. Sure, they had great chemistry, but aside from that they were developing strong feelings for each other. It made their sex scenes even more intense. Overall, I really enjoyed this entire series. It captured my attention and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next and how their story would unravel. In the end, I found a girl who finally caught her prince and a man that had once been cold, allow himself to love again. The only thing that could have made this series better is getting some of the story told from Nathan's POV. That would have been icing on the cake for me. If you're a fan of Erotic Romance, check out this series!Quotes:~I needed the moment of backbone-at a time when I feel I am losing all the pieces that make me, me. -Loc 1128~In this moment, he takes my heart as well as my body.-Loc 2464~Lust is a dangerous thing.
