This book really touched me. Although the plot was a bit contrived, it did keep me riveted wondering how it would end. I hesitate to recommend it because of the underlying sadness throughout, but I feel that it really captured the grief process, different causes for and types of grief. I find the characters were very true to life and the way they handle and mishandle life events and grief very realistic and true to my own life experiences. As a dog person, I relate deeply to the healing power of an intuitive canine companion. Loved this book! Justine and her dog Mack are making a cross country trip in a friends semi, going back to Massachusetts to see her dying father. The driver gets mad at her, taking off and leaving her at a truck stop, not knowing the dog is in the sleeper. When he discovers Mack, he throws him out on the highway. What things happen to Mack and Justine as they try to find their way to each other once more?
