About book The Descent Series: Vol.1 (2012)

I picked this three volume set up for free and it was then recommended to me by a friend. I found the first book to be interesting enough but almost quit on the second. I just didn't find it all that interesting and the lead character annoys the hell out of me. That sullen whiney attitude needs to die by the time you reach high school. Really? What redeeming characteristcs does she have. She tries to act tough and treats everyone like crap. The ability to kick butt doesn't give you many, if any, brownie points. The third book picked up some and was more interesting but she's still pretty worthless as a friend etc. I might be more interested if her friends were the leads. And what's with the constant hints of some super important crap. Develop the story and that plot line or shut up about it. There's no plot development along those lines, just repeated reminders that something big is tied to her. OK, maybe the end of book three COULD have something to do with that but I don't know that I care anymore. I may be a little harsh but I was expecting characters I could at least root for. The writing style is fine and the plots, minus the constant 'she is important' signs tossed in your face, is ok. The second book was a bit annoying with flashbacks but only mildly so. The third book was more entertaining but it was also shorter.Perhaps you'll like this series. Obviously, many do and this is just my opinion. If so, great. If I want to see a whiny bully who treats his/her friends like crap, I'll go visit the local prison. Demons, excorcists, witches with special bonds to the demon slayers... angels and god slayers. It was quite a lot to take in, and at the beginning I had a hard time keeping up, but over all I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I think the characters were well developed and I love the heroine. I find myself with mixed emotions concerning her witch, and even her boyfriend at times, and in fact I think her and Thom would make a fantastic team.. ;) but as soon as I have money to buy the rest of the series I'll probably enjoy reading the rest of the series.
