About book The Deposit Slip (2012)

The Deposit Slip is nail-biting legal fiction. When an old man dies, his daughter Erin finds a deposit slip for ten million dollars in his safe deposit box. Erin can’t imagine where the money could have come from, and the bank denies the existence of the account. It goes to such lengths to discourage any lawyer from taking the case and convince Erin to drop it, that there is obviously more to it than a simple bank error. I found it a little hard to understand why Erin would go after the money so hard when she suspects her father must have stolen it, but she wants “the truth” and finding the truth brings lots of fast paced action. The author, a trained lawyer, obviously knows the ins and outs of the law that his characters are up against. With two attractive women involved (Erin and end-of-his-rope lawyer Jared’s loyal assistant), the love outcome is not as obvious as in romantic fiction where the identity of the POV characters gives it away. The Minnesota setting was fun since I know the area. This is inspirational fiction, but gospel input is limited to Jared’s father, a notorious embezzler and ex-con who demonstrates the change God has made in his life with humility. I don’t recall that that change is even verbally attributed to Jesus. An intriguing fast read. A book I could not put down..Jared Neaton is a struggling attorney, when a million dollar caseis handed to him from his old protege..With his struggling law practicehe has very limited funds to operate on..I love the characters in this one..Jessie is his legal assistant.Jared heads back to his hometown and his interaction with his fatherand how they come back together is heartwarming.Great story that you won't want to miss. Can't wait for the next one from this author.

This is a quick Grisham-like book. Not as deep as the Grisham stories, but a fun read.
