About book The Defiance (2000)

I was quite excited when I read The Scourge, the first in this brilliant series, and my excitement didn’t abate while waiting for this sequel! I flew through it, maybe a little TOO fast considering I didn’t want to stop reading once I started. It’s a short book so I was able to do this in one sitting. The entire plot was fabulous. From the beginning you’re given answers about what happened between book one and two, and it seemed like it was maybe only a few days. You can easily go into the second without a break and think it was all one book, however, if you haven’t read The Scourge in a while, not to worry. A.G. Henley does a great job of reminding us of the more important things and even while doing so, is able to keep the story on track. The only thing I don’t like about reviewing sequels is the inability to really talk about either book. I want my review to show you how fabulous this series really is without spoilers. What I can say is that the intensity is actually ratcheted up! I was filled with anxiety for Fenn and Peree. They go through SO much in this! And the crazy thing is that the ending leaves off where I just know book three is going to be absolutely freaking crazy too! So many questions left! And then there are a few people that I would love to hit with a frying pan. Seriously, I wish A.G. Henley could make them walk off a long plank, with a steep drop! Oyyyy! But, the main characters are amazing, as ever. And I thoroughly enjoyed reading about them. I just CANNOT wait for book three now! Unique plot and strong characters. Very enjoyable. However.......did I miss a book? I read The Scourage and Keeper. Defiance confused me a bit when the story was flashing back to certain people and a specific place. According to the reading order I'm on track...but I feel like I missed a book. Are the flashbacks to how you find out what the scourage really are told in exploits elsewhere? Or did the author mean for it to occur like this......I feel cheated out of a book. It is a very good series though.
