Poor Emma was so naive that she didn't understand what consummating the marriage meant exactly. Sure her husband slept with her one night but the only noise coming from the bed chamber was his snores.Emma's misunderstandings about many different things made me chuckle quite a few times. After two years of marriage and with only one night of sleeping together Emma is desperate to have a child. She takes her plight to the king to see if he could order her husband to bed her. That time in court explaining her dilemma to the king was probably the most humourous part of the book. Here is a sample from last Tuesday's Teaser where I shared a few lines. Although the king does side with Emma, by the time the deed was to be completed, her husband passes away. The king then orders a knight, Amaury de Aneford to marry her. Of course Amaury hears about Emma's visit to see the king and immediately thinks that Emma must be an old hag. The bumbling antics these two encounter with their super quick wedding and then their growing love for each each made for a delightfully lovely read. I enjoyed from page one right until the end. You'll enjoy reading all about their growing care and love for each other and you can't help but have Emma win your heart over. The only thing I wish I could understand more clearly is why her first husband decided not to bed her. It seemed to be left in the air a bit and perhaps left to the reader to determine that answer.I am happy to have purchased this book during a time where proceeds are donated to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. Well, what a hoot! I had read all the write ups by others on various sites, but thought it couldn't be as funny as people were saying, however it totally was a real scream! I laughed all the way through, even the prologue had me laughing out loud! The storyline was great, and unfolded easily and the whole story flowed so smoothly, it is a very well written book. I had worried I might not like the old English language, but I actually found it quite endearing and 'sweet' in some ways, as well as funny at other times to hear the way the two main characters speak to each other!I usually read paranormal romance, urban fantasy, type books and only really tried this because I had loved the authors Argeneau Vampires series and her humour throughout those books. Even though this was not my typical genre, I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the book. It has got to be the funniest book I have ever read, but also balanced perfectly with some action, mystery and a beautiful soft romantic undertone. If you love romance this will be something a bit different for you, and certainly if you are a fan of the author and her style of writing, it is a winner and extremely funny!

Allora, una veloce premessa: non pensavo che avrei mai, dico mai, letto un romanzo rosa di questo tipo. Con “di questo tipo” intendo i romanzi pubblicati in edicola, con copertine onestamente imbarazzanti, in cui c’è la solita coppia sospirante formata da uomo aitante (meglio se mezzo nudo) e donna persa tra le sue braccia, o che lo respinge con aria sofferta. Ma visto che questo libro mi era stato inviato tanto tempo fa da un utente Anobii, non mi ricordo in che occasione, ho deciso di leggerlo comunque – ho pensato “mal che vada, mi farò delle risate”. Le risate ci sono state, in effetti, ma non per il motivo che mi aspettavo! Questo libro, infatti, è divertente e scanzonato: gran parte del merito è dei personaggi che sono tutti ben delineati e, anche se alcuni sono costruiti su degli evidenti cliché, riescono sempre a portare qualcosa in più alla storia, rendendola frizzante e allegra. Il rapporto tra Emma e Amaury, poi, è semplicemente fantastico: le loro incomprensioni sono un balsamo contro il cattivo umore! Non ho amato molto le parti dedicate agli amplessi, ma visto che non sono molte e, in certi casi, sono funzionali al proseguimento della trama, non ci ho fatto troppo caso. Senza contare, poi, che a volte pure le scene di sesso sono scritte in modo tale da far ridere il lettore! Non manca anche una sorta di tenerezza, soprattutto man mano che ci si avvicina alla fine; tuttavia, non si parla certamente di robaccia tutta zucchero e melassa e anche questo è stato un aspetto che ho apprezzato moltissimo. Gli episodi si susseguono velocemente, dando alla storia un ritmo deciso, quasi trascinante. E’ un romanzo che si legge in pochissimo tempo, perché le pagine scorrono fluide, senza annoiare mai: a questo portano anche le parti più “avventurose” del libro che, ci tengo a dirlo, presenta anche delle scene d’azione (legate all’intreccio, che non gira solo attorno alla relazione romantica, ma anche a problematiche ereditarie e a traditori della patria) che rendono più corposa e piacevole la storia. Insomma, ammetto il mio errore: posso dire con una certa sicurezza che non diventerò una lettrice fedele di queste collane, ma prometto che d’ora in poi cercherò di avere meno pregiudizi verso questi libri! Se si rivelassero tutte letture d’evasione divertenti e, perché no, appassionanti come questa, ne sarei solo felice.
