I skipped right to the last book in this series for some unknown reason. Life on Atherton has settled down to a peaceful pastoral routine. Edgar, the boy created by the genius (sometimes crazy evil genius) Dr. Max Harding, wants to explore the center of Atherton. Edgar finds a message from the Dr. and a way to go to the Dark Planet. The overall theme to the book is environment and man's destructive behavior. Sci-fi with a dragon thrown in. I love Patrick Carman's storytelling from his Land of Elyon series to his Atherton series. The Dark Planet concludes the Atherton series as we revisit Atherton and venture to the Dark Planet: Earth. Edgar is on his own as he follows his father's last wishes to return to the Dark Planet and finish what his father had started. In the mean time Isabel and Samuel are having an adventure of their own inside Atherton. We meet more interesting creatures from the mind of Dr. Harding, but they all have a purpose, even if nobody can discern that purpose. Wonderful read, but please, start at the beginning! You don't want to miss the adventures leading up to this story.
