I enjoyed this book, although it did not hold up to my expectations.I purchased this book as I was in a pinch and needed something to read on the train - this was available and caught my attention so I picked it up. I found the book was sort of dumbed-down... it was written from the perspective of an 8-year old, and thus it was written in a very basic language and felt like a children's book. My 9-year old would have no problems reading or understanding this book. For being a romance book, there was little intimacy or true romance. That being said, it was a cute and enjoyable Christmas story.It was a very quick read and was easy to understand - it required very little thought process and was great to read through the distractions and interruptions on the train. It was light and enjoyable.Overall, I would recommend this book as a light seasonal read... but not if you're into complex or thoughtful reads. Have you ever wished for something that basically impossible to get? A car? Horse? This? or that? I’m sure everyone of you has, because I have too.This book is about a young girl Lucy, who wishes for a pony name Smoky that’s for sale down the road. Bu when she tells her mother, she learns that unless they get more boarders, they probably wont make it through the winter.A story of hope and love. Of a new beginning. And most of all a Christmas present beyond Lucy’s imagination. I enjoyed this book thoroughly, although it is only a shot novel. I hope you enjoy it is much as I did.
