About book The Case Of The Double Bumblebee Sting (1998)
That Pete sure is a coward. Here he is, waiting around for the morning scraps and ADMITTING that he saw a giant rattlesnake by the junk heap but did nothing about it. I mean, hasn’t the doofus cat heard of earning his keep?Such is not the attitude of Hank the Cowdog, head of Ranch Security. He immediately switches into full Defense Mode and gallops off to attack the foe. But when he arrives at the scene of the foe, all he sees is a fluffy bunny rabbit. He returns to Pete to question him further, but finds him eating the last of the bacon…Hank realizes he’s been duped – and by a cat! There was no rattlesnake. It was all a trick. Still, there’s no sense in not returning for the rabbit. He’s cornered in that pipe, and Hank’s sure that if he just sticks his nose up the pipe, ouch, yikes, what was that stinging feeling? It couldn’t have been a rattlesnake, it must have been a bumblebee, or rather two bumblebees since there are two puncture marks…Hank is soon forced to admit that it actually wasn’t a case of a double bumblebee sting (like you thought), but actually a rattlesnake bite (as he thought all along). Does this mean he must die?Discussion.Hank gets into petty arguments with Drover. Also, Hank and Pete the Barncat have a longstanding blood feud. More troubling is Junior the Buzzard’s passive disrespect for his fussy father, Wallace. Also, the interaction between Sally May and her children, though comically portrayed, is frustration-laced.Conclusion. I, as a young adult, enjoy reading Hank the Cowdog. I find it offers me perspective and relaxation when I’m stressed, and, because of my age, I am able to enjoy the humor and leave the silliness behind. However, I do not believe that young readers will be able to read Hank the Cowdog without being encouraged in silliness and sarcasm. For this reason, I do not recommend Hank the Cowdog for young readers, while reserving the right to enjoy it myself.Visit The Blithering Bookster to read more reviews!www.blitheringbookster.com
