About book The Camping Trip That Changed America (2012)

This is the story of Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir, a fast friendship. It tells the story of Teddy Roosevelt and his trip to mountains in California in hopes of discovering some of America's beautiful sites. He tells John his dream of having his children see the sites he saw. The book ends with Teddy's campaign to push Congress to pass wilderness preservation laws. John and Teddy remained friends for the rest of their lives and value the natural wonders. This would be a great book to use to launch a unit on preservation of natural resources, geography, the life of Teddy Roosevelt, or geology. What an interesting story. I didn't know this about our history. I like seeing how human Teddy Roosevelt was, and how he used his passion to protect something so important to our country. I did wish that it mentioned something about Teddy bears, because I'm still not quite sure I know why they were named after him. (I thought the part of the bear was going to link to it, but it didn't.) Informative and easy to read.2014-2015 Beehive nominee
