About book The Bosnia List: A Memoir Of War, Exile, And Return (2014)

Our 'helpless hero' and his family barely escapes the ethnic cleansing in Bosnia. After surviving horror after horror, they finally settle down in the US. The family works hard and slowly build a life for themselves. After almost 20 years, they decide to visit the Motherland and confront the demons of their past. The author returns with mixed revenge fantasies but leaves with a better understanding of his own past. He realizes that All Serbs weren't evil and without the help of some of them, his family would have never survived the war. Written from a first person perspective, it is a very sad, heart breaking and moving tale. It is also astounding that the author insists that the Bosnian experience makes them closer to the Jews (and Israel) than other Muslim Countries. He at different times repeats the same mantra "Never Again !"A good read.... Read this book!If you remember the stories coming out of Bosnia in the 1990s, you may think you have a general idea of what the situation was like. But whatever you think you know, you will gain a lot of insight from this book. This astonishing and deeply moving true story will paint the picture for you in a personal way. I just came back from visiting Bosnia (as well as Slovenia and Croatia), and I learned a lot about the war while I was there, but this book took it to a new level.I'd give it a fifth star if the writing were a little crisper, but the author is not a writer, and English is not his first language, so I can forgive the occasional clunkiness.
