About book The Book Of Mormon Girl: Stories From An American Faith (2012)

Brooks gently and lovingly describes her experienced being raised Mormon and how her pioneer ancestry, religious traditions, and Mormon culture is deeply woven into the fiber of her identity. Though she struggles with church teachings later in life, the core values of Mormonism continue to resonate for her. She is able to find her own way of living and celebrating her spiritual heritage within the nontraditional Mormon life she creates. This book was a real disappointment. I felt like I was reading some college freshman's journal. Lots of navel gazing, not a lot of substance. Why spend more than half the book on childhood memories and Marie Osmond, but almost no explanation about her self imposed exile from the church? The author is a blogger, and it shows. This book needs a strong editing hand. As I look at the hard copy of this book, I see that it was self published, and it shows. This book is not worth your time.

I enjoyed this and am grateful of an unorthodox view during a time of reentrenchment.
