Great for helping kids (and adults!) understand what it is to be blind. The text is accompanied by raised Braille lettering, and the pictures are raised as well, so children can "read" with their fingertips. When I was in fifth grade we read a book about a blind boy and I taught myself Braille and wrote an essay while using it, and since then I've always been fascinated with how it works, so this was a neat find. This incredibly unique picture book uses dark pictures with raised lines to depict how children that struggle with blindness and reading. Through the use of braille and descriptive words to describe colors and images, this book teaches students of all ages to understand the struggles of blindness and allows students to experience imagery through difference senses: touch and sound. This book also includes a braille dictionary, which can be used to teach students who to read braille. I found that this book would be excellent and interesting for inclusion in the curriculums of all grades.
