What an amazing book. Shaun Tan, who worked as a concept artist on the movies WALL-E and Horton Hears a Who, is clearly talented and inspiring. The book that shares different types of his sketches, doodles and notebook drawings is a great way to share art with children, going beyond finished masterpieces, and discussing creativity and creation. This book can speak to children of all ages and interests in art, and communicates many positive messages about art that may inspire children to do their own drawing, doodling and 'creative thinking'.What a treasure! It's Shaun Tan. Of course I'm giving it 5 stars. This short book is basically a collection of sketches from various sketchbooks and notepads -- all of them are designed to show how Tan works through particular ideas. Each sketch is just that -- an unfinished piece of work -- but that doesn't distract at all from their whimsy and beauty. Tan is one of my favorite illustrators, and I really enjoyed this look inside his process.
Two things: I must own this book and I really want to start drawing again. Seriously Inspired!
