I kept reading in hopes that something would happen, but the ending was so dissapointing! This book was WAY too heavy on the moth information and WAY too light on information about the characters! I just finished this book and I am actually angry. There is no real ending. We can assume, I guess, that Ginnie had some sort of autism; however why didn't Vivi tell her? When Vivi finally seemed like she was going to tell her she didn't, and then was frustrated that Ginnie wasn't catching on. Why did Vivi come back after so long? Wasn't she searching for something at some point? That plot was just dropped! There was some sort of hint that Vivi knew the neighbor, Eileen, more than just from meeting her a few days ago. Did Ginnie kill her mother? Why did Clive just leave after Maude died? What happens to Arthur? What about the creepy guy he thought was hitting on her at the moth convention? What was the point of that whole chapter? Did the doctor abuse her? She didn't feel comfortable around him, but we never learn why. Seriously one of the most frustrating books I have ever read! It seems as though the author got tired of writing the story, so she killed of Vivi just so she didn't have to really finish it. Maybe if she had left out a LOT of the unnecessary details about the moths, she would have been able to spend more time writing the plot. What a wonderful treat this short book was! I have to admit I almost abandoned it early on. It's the slow detailed account of two estranged sisters who haven't seen each other in over fifty years. Over a period of four days, the story of their earlier lives together unfolds against a backdrop of lepidopterology (the study of moths) which was the family namesake. We meet Virginia, the lepidopterist of the family, who took over in her father's footsteps while sister Vivian moved away and married. Virginia remained in the family's aging mansion, and now Vivian has chose to return after all these years. Through Virginia's eyes, we slowly learn of their mother's alcoholism and other dark matters in the family that led to Vivian staying away all this time. While Virginia prattles on in long bouts about moths and bugs, she suddenly throws in shocking hints as to what happened between her and her loved ones. And that's what kept me reading! I wanted answers.Like others here, I was a bit let down by the ending - right up to that last chapter was fine. And that's the only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five. For those who love dark secretive family drama, complete with decrepit old houses full of bugs, this book is for you. I couldn't put it down.
Do You like book The Behavior Of Moths (2008)?
I quite enjoyed this although it was fairly easy to predict what the outcome was going to be.
