About book The Avalon Ladies Scrapbooking Society (2013)
I thought this book was good however, it wasn't nearly as good as Friendship Bread, which is the first book in this series. I found that this book was a bit predictable, and that Bettie was a bit obnoxious at times, always advertising her scrapbooking club throughout each chapter. I also found it difficult to really connect with the characters, especially Ada, as I found that her story lacked luster. I didn't feel any empathy for Isabel or Yvonne however, I was happy that they had great endings. I did like reading about each of the characters however, I just found that their stories were not as well-developed as the characters introduced in Friendship Bread. Darien Gee's second novel is a feel good delight. The people I cared about in Friendship Bread have returned along with a host of other townspeople. Avalon has all the annoyances and the joys of small town living and where the author's first novel connected the characters by the common thread of friendship bread, this novel links the characters by way of scrapbooking. While some serious issues are dealt with, the overall tenor of the novel is optimistic. It's a comforting book. I was sad to leave Avalon but look forward to visiting again. The only small criticism is that, for me, there were so many characters, at times I had to stop to sort them all out. .
