This was the 8th book in the Scot Harvath series, and some new characters have been introduced. Starting with the newly elected US President. As with a lot of politicians they see the chance to gain some political mileage by trimming back in various areas, in this case the intelligence community. Yet when an American Doctor, who just happens to be the daughter of one of the new President's biggest supporters, is kidnapped in Afghanistan it is time to dust off the Norseman and set him doing what he does best.The inter-service rivallry and joking holds true to many different nations, and is an accurate depiction. I am sure that many of the private security companies out in Afghanistan employ many such characters. I did find the goings on in the White House a bit too drawn out, but they didn't detract from the book in the end. An okay thriller about an ex-Secret Service agent pushed into Afghanistan by the President of the US to covertly rescue a kidnapped American Aide worker. The Hero has to free a known terrorist and swap him for the kidnapped girl. But he figures out a way to free the girl AND keep the terrorist locked up. Fun thriller. Oh, and the auther had the main character drink so many Red Bulls that I started to wonder if he had some sort of endorsement deal! Hahahaha.

I think I'm done reading Brad Thor books for awhile. They're starting to be a bit formulaic.
