About book The Angel Tree (2014)

This was a good book for intermediate level students. The kids in this story have lives that are less than perfect, but they all have good intentions. Though a little on the sweet, easily-wrapped-up side, this is a book with heart that has good lessons for the students. Our four main characters, each with their own problems, try to find the anonymous benefactor in charge of The Angel Tree, a Christmas tradition that brings blessings upon all in their town. This is a fun, easy Christmas read about the true spirit of the holiday - giving others what they truly need. Also, it provides a real life example of two boys who must look past their differences and assumed prejudices of one another in order to discover a greater good. The whole idea of an angel tree, a place where the town's residents can write their most heartfelt needs, tie it to a bough of the enormous pine in the town's center, and then mysteriously have it granted, is a wonderful description of pure charity, and from whose association, Max, Joe, Lucy and Cami discover true happiness. A great book for kids!
