Do You like book The American Heiress (2010)?
After reading this, I'm actually pretty surprised at the low ratings... That being said, this isn't your usual plot driven novel - it's more a story.Well written this isn't a romance novel or a traditional historical fiction. It's not based on real life, yet the story could have easily been true and seems to be a well researched piece into the time. There was one scene at the beginning of the book that was weird, slightly distasteful, and really didn't mesh with the book. Make it past that and this is a good, albeit long novel to curl up with this winter.

Unfortunately, I had to lead a discussion of this book.Because Downton Abbey was extremely popular on television at the same time, I had to convince my book group that the novel was poorly written and reminded me of a soap opera (like Downton Abbey). I succeeded! Similar setting, same time frame, substitute American debutante whose mother is going to marry her to a European title, whatever it takes.
