About book The Adventures Of Vin Fiz (2007)

1. This novel should fall into the genre of Action and Adventure 2. Obtaining a magical mat, twins Casey and Lacey turn a model Wright Brothers plane and travel to New York City. Meeting new friends and encourtering some "bad guys" along the way the twins have the adventure of a life time. 3. a) Being Clive Cussler's first children't novel he captures the attention of the reader. Throught the adventures that the twins go on allow the reader to feel apart of the action. The story is told from Casey and Lacey's point of view so it is easy to relate to the story being told. b) The twins both have emotional roles that they play in the story. You can hear when they are afraid, excited, or just nervous. Through the power of brain-storming the twins find different ways to get out of many sticky situations. "We'll catch him," Casey said confidently. "Look down. All we have to do is follow the tracks." pg. 52 c) The different phrases found within the story that help you brain-storm with Casey and Lacey out of the "sticky situations". "Lacey and Casey did not shilly-shally. They both leaped into an ore cart as quick as you could say 'jump in the ore cart.'" pg. 71 "Casey immediately sensed something was not right. "That's odd," he said. "What's odd?" asked Lacey. "That train we're approaching. It's stopped." "So, why is that odd?" "That's a passenger train. It only stops at a station when it comes into town. There is no town, and there is no station. It's sitting in the middle of the countryside." pg. 98 It is a story full of problem solving and full of magical adventures. 4. I have found practical teaching strategies to use while reading this book. One of my favorites is having the student create a movie poster that explains the "book" then writing a review about it to share with the class. It helps teaching summaries and using few words to explain the book.

i think this would be a harmless book for my students to read. the story is fairly entertaining. as an experienced reader though, i found this book hard to read. it was obviously an attempt at writing a children's novel. you know, when the author over explains stuff, because he thinks his readers need that. or, i would find a discrepancy in the story and it would be addresses, but obviously and without imagination. (there were plenty of roll your eyes moments.) the worst is that it reminded be of little house on the prairie books - you know, the ones where there is a tragedy every chapter! i can't stand those kinds of books. so ... a safe read for my students, but i would want them to graduate to a much more advanced body of writing.

Do You like book The Adventures Of Vin Fiz (2007)?

I'm a died-in-the-wool Clive Cussler fan, so I jumped at the opportunity to check out his approach to a children's story. The plot and the attention to detail are classic Cussler. The words, however, seem stilted and forced at times, as if Clive is 'talking down' to the kids, rather than engaging at their level. With that said, though, it's a great story - a mix of technology, adventure, and excitement as only Clive Cussler can brew up. Short, and easy-to-read, it's a good introduction to the Cussler style, sure to cultivate a new generation of fans.
