Honestly, I'm hard pressed to come up with praise for this novel. The few deeper questions it asks - how much of ourselves constitutes the essence of a human; where does the soul reside - are glossed over. In fact, the question regarding our soul is done in approximately three paragraphs and then never touched again. The book tries to get into the advances of science and bioengineering indicating there's controversy...but doesn't really make any points about it. Just mentions the controversy and moves along.I never really felt for any of the characters, wasn't draw into the plot, and the themes were only superficially covered. The student who recommended this book just gave the title, no review, so not sure what they drew from it, but for me it was definitely a miss. At the beginning of this novel I was fairly interested and then I began to suspect that there was more to the story of Jenna fox then we were being told. I loved the reveal and how Jenna struggled with it. It was a science fiction book that is so different from the other science fiction books that I have read, and that was so refreshing. I would recommend this novel to anyone interested in science or the medical field as this novel pertains to how the medical and scientific field could possibly progress towards.
