I loved this book so much. The characters were quirky, the story was heartwarming and empowering. I absolutely loved Moo and her crazy personality, and I thought Mike was extremely creative and compassionate. I thought Mike's father's bluntness and social awkwardness was amusing, even though he really annoyed me at times. I especially loved the part about them trying to bring Misha home, and I thought it was an extremely inspiring tale that I was positively in love with. The plot slowly unravels as the artisan screw turned out to be a community adoption project and no where near a math/engineering project. Mike's dad did him a favor by sending him to stay with relatives for the summer. The book unveiled different facades of human beings, from the accomplished professor who was out of touch with his son to the homeless man on the street who found a home in Mike's heart. The project put Mike on center stage for a higher calling and conveniently served as what seemed like an intense real life therapy to treat his emotional hurts. The community saw the gem in Mike and applauded him for his brilliance in spite of his tender age. What the characters saw as a "sign" that Mike was at the right place right time to help Misha, I saw it as a recovery for Mike to find his self worth and place in life.
