About book The Absent Author (1997)

I read “The Absent Author” by Ron Roy. It is a cute kids book about an Author who gets kidnapped. The story takes place in a town called Green Lawn during the summer. The whole story happens within two days. The main characters of the book are Dink, Ruth Rose, Josh, and Mavis Green. Dink, Ruth Rose, and Josh are all kids. Ruth Rose loves the color purple and she is dressed in it from head to toe. Josh is more of a quiet kid who tags along and does whatever Dink and Ruth do. Dink is the leader of the group. He plans everything and tells everyone to what to do. Dink arranged for his favorite author “Wallace Wallice” to come and do a book signing at his towns library, but Wallace Wallice never showed up. The kids immediately thought that he was kidnapped. The kids met a woman named Mavis Green and she agreed to help the kids find their favorite author. They started gathering clues to help them find him. They found out that the last place he was seen was at his hotel. They checked with the hotel manager and he told them that Wallace Wallice checked in but never slept in his room. The kids found a man in the room next door who claimed to be wallace Wallice. The kids found out that Mavis Green was the real Wallace Wallice and her brother was the man in the room. Mavis Green faked her kidnapping because she is writing a new book from the perspective of a kid. She wanted to know how they would figure out a kidnapping and what they would do. This book is at a young reading level and I would probably recommend this book to fifth graders who like to read chapter books that are at their reading level. This book kept me interested in what I was reading, even though it was an easier reading level. I had fun reading this book and would rate it a 3 out of 5 stars.

“The Absent Author” is a book written about three kids; Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose. Dink writes a letter to the famous author Wallis Wallace and is asking him to come to Green Lawn, the town Dink lives in. Wallis Wallace writes back to Dink and tells him that he will come. But when the day comes where Wallis Wallace is supposed to arrive he does not. Dink and his friends are worried. Dink remembers that Wallis said something about possibly getting kidnapped, so this makes Dink and the crew get together to find him.Dink, Josh, Ruth, and Wallis Wallace are all main characters in the “The Absent Author”. There are many other characters talked about in the book Dink’s mom, Officer Fallon, Mr. Paskey, Mr. Linkletter and others. Most of the book is taken place at the library, located in Green Lawn. The story takes place in modern times, you can this tell because of the stuff found around the town while they are looking for Wallis Wallace. Friendship is one of the major themes that I saw in the book. We see this when Dink, Josh, and Ruth all come together to help find Wallis Wallace. They put their minds to it and did not give up until they found Wallis Wallace. Overall I thought that “The Absent Author” was a very good book to read. The book always kept me interested and never got boring because I never knew what was going to happen next. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes a mystery kind of book.

"The Absent Author" was a mystery book for children based on the story of Dink, Josh and Ruth Rose. When Josh contacts his favorite author, Wallice Wallis, she says she will come to Green Lawn for a book signing. When she fails to show up at the book signing, Josh and his friends go on a hunt to find her. They retrace her steps and you must read the book to find out what happens. I thought the book was fairly decent. It's definitely written for children in the 8-12 age category. If you're interested, there's an entire series of A-Z Mysteries written by Ron Roy.

Dink e-mails author Wallace and to his delight the author is to come to the local bookstore for a personal appearance. Wallace never shows and the three youngsters put together clues to try to solve the mystery. Great mystery line and concrete clues abound. Young detectives will love this story and it will get them reading plenty more in this series, in my opinion.

I thought the book was okay. It was a mystery that was taking place mostly at a book signing. An author was supposed to come to a book signing but never showed up. The kids got worried and tried to find him. The author was named Wallis Wallace and the kids followed the places where the author was. In the end they found out that the author was really a woman and she was playing a trick on all the kids. I would recommend this book to the younger boy generation because it is a mystery and some girl
