Authors can either rejoice or tear their hair when one of the marginal characters in their series takes on a life of his own. So it was with Chris Donnetti, and later son Gabe, in the Decker/Lazarus novels. Who can't relate to a charismatic, brilliantly gifted psychopathic hit man who relates to his son via their shared talent for classical music? Hannibal would adore these two. As do I, so it was good to see them back in action in "Gun Games" -- a novel that takes the problems of star-crossed teen lovers and bullying in exclusive private schools to whole new levels. I was sorry that Rina did not have a stronger role here and there were a number of times when I felt the book needed way better editing. But, this is Decker and Gabe's story and I could not put it down. As soon as I finished, I ordered the sequel which starts a couple of months after this book ends. Well worth reading! I was very disappointed with this work from Faye Kellerman. I can't see how it's important to describe what each character is wearing unless it gives us insight to the story or person, yet we were given a day by day blow of outfits. I grew weary of the text message scenes between the teenagers rather than putting us in the story with action and dialog. The 15 year old character of Gabe comes across as a mother's dream of what she'd like her teenage son to be... way too good to be true. I felt like the story ended two thirds of the way through the book. Ms Kellerman's tendency to " make it a wrap" often introduced author intrusion rather than letting her characters carry the story.
