Minor spoiler: Sherlock Holmes is in this book so I had really big doubts that this would be any good. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. Not only was Sherlock handled reasonably well and respectably but I REALLY liked the main character: a female cross-dressing doctor/detective. I didn't see that coming right away but it was handled extremely well. More like this and I will definitely check out other stories about this character. A new take on a Sherlock Holmes mystery. Dr Kronberg is a fascinating character. I particualrly like the way the author focuses on the characters struggles to keep their own identity a secret for Ana it was whether to live as a man or woman for Sherlock it was the unerving way that Ana could see things in him that others could not. An engaging mystery with suitably horrid villians in the form of the "the club" and nice references to the murky world of past medicine and body snatchers. I can't wait to see what will happen with the introduction of Moriarty.
