About book Testimony (2008)

A sex scandal involving teens at a private school in Vermont - this type of story has likely been written a thousand times over by many authors. Topic aside, there are a few things I really liked about this book. First, I thought it was interesting that the author switched points of view throughout the story. It's rare that I read stories told in the second person point of view. Hearing different peoples' perspective on the events leading up to and following the scandal kept me hooked. Lastly, I loved that the story really honed in on the impact that one single event, one choice, could have on so many peoples' lives. More sex and scandal. This time involving minors. Shameless. I read the first three chapters then skipped to the end to read what "actually" happened to clear the fogginess caused by the first chapters. I suppose this was meant to make the novel "suspenseful". But it lurked back and forth between past and present and between too many narrators. All in a painfully long and boring downward spiral taking every last person in the small town down with it. No thanks!

Quite a different story than I have been reading. Not sure it was a favorite.

Good story but Anita Shreve's writing style is a bit choppy .
