About book Teach Like A Pirate: Increase Student Engagement, Boost Your Creativity, And Transform Your Life As An Educator (2012)
I loved this book! I've tried my own version of many of these ideas over the years and it makes me feel great about the things I've already done and excited about the things in my future. To the critics of this book I would say that you need to loosen up a little bit. Maybe you can't create a Speak Easy in your classroom but you can definitely work on your attitude! Great job Dave Burgess. I've read lots of teaching books over the years and I finally found one that fits me!! I really, really don't like teaching books that think they are the first book ever to tell me to be passionate about my job and be the ONE to make a difference in a kid's life. There were a few parts that rang very true to my views on education and the profession in general, but I felt like this was really directed at first or second year teachers. I also thought there would be cliche pirate-themed ideas in the book, and there really wasn't! I was actually looking forward to that, so bummer. It was okay, but I've definitely read better, too. 32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny is still my absolute favorite, so if you're looking for some inspiration it's definitely a blast.
