Tap, tap, boom, boom are the sounds that raindrops and thunder make in this adorable book. The lines flow perfectly and work together with the illustrations to tell the story of a city during a rainstorm. Reading it made me think back to all of the rainstorm I came across in Belize, and the happy memories of huddling together with all walks of life under the nearest cover, waiting for the rain to stop. Some really nice art with communal feeling. The author explains how storms bring people together. I like the onomatopoeia, but the text seemed a little clunky to me. Some passages would be nice for a read-aloud with a few sweet turns of phrases here and there, but I'm not a fan of how the author shortened sentences for the sake of trying to stay rhythmic or poetic. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
