This brightly illustrated option is going to attract a lot of children with a love for how things work. Many of these children will be boys, you'll find. The story itself isn't especially thrilling to me, and it doesn't make me happy to read during a storytime session. But you watch as distracted boys immediately snap to attention and want to see the adventures of these adorably illustrated tools and what they make. It's good to have in your arsenal, and can function well on units focusing on noise especially. I think I would have liked this one even more if it had been more obvious that they were constructing one specific thing, with better illustrative hints at what that thing might be for children to be able to use deductive reasoning and guess. Until the final reveal, it reads a bit randomly and I never would have guessed what they were building (so how could a child?). Fun use of sounds though and big, bold illustrations make it a great choice for storytime.
