The 2nd book in the series - I highly recommend reading the 1st book first.I just love these characters - not a lot of drama in their love story, which is a nice change, but there is enough around them to make the story interesting. What is captivating is watching their love grow and how Hunter just wholly embraces it but Max, the one who has recognized he is gay for longer, struggles harder. It was a nice story, but I didn't feel the connection to it. I felt it dragged in places, like it could've been shorter than it was. I also felt that there was not enough emotional buildup on some scenes. In some instances the situation deserved the main character's reaction, but it felt like I missed how he got there emotionally. He would go from fairly normal to crying, but I coudn't get the transition from one mood to the other. The same thing happened with some secondary characters: from homophobia to acceptance without internal struggle afterwards was a bit unrealistic. Another thing that kept throwing me off was that sometimes Hunter's narrative felt like a woman's, when he was portrayed as anything but. Definitely not a re-read.
