About book Take Good Care Of The Garden And The Dogs: Family, Friendships, And Faith In Small-Town Alaska (2010)

I have to say, while I did enjoy Heather Lende writing style, I found the book rather depressing, now I know her job as an obituary writer plays a part here. I am not one that shies away from death or is even fearful of death, it is a part of life, I just don't want to read a whole book about it. Now, granted the whole book was NOT about death and dying but a good portion of it was and that is not what I was looking for when I picked up this book. I found this book to be spiritually uplifting. I read it in the winter when depression sets in and smiled through most of the pages. After an accident, the author decides to pick herself back up and start again. With the help of her family, she details the adventures she encounters living in a small Alaskan town. She writes obituaries for a local newspaper and makes them as personal as she can. She details things like a totem pole rising, fishing in the wilderness, and getting back on a bicycle. It was like chicken soup for the soul.

A good book to read if you've been hit with the figurative or literal truck in your life.
