About book Tactics: A Game Plan For Discussing Your Christian Convictions (2009)

I discovered this book while attending a Summit Worldview Conference (If you've never heard of Summit, let me tell you, it's amazing!) This book is excellent too. It shares solid logic and effective tactics in defending biblical convictions. For some this might be a super-quick read, but for me it wasn't. Even though it's written in a conversational tone, it still took me a while to read it. I wanted to grasp it, not just fly through the pages. I still haven't fully grasped it. I definitely envision a second reading. This is certainly one of the best books out there for Christians to read. I actually listened to it twice back to back. I think it should be one of the first five, if not the first apologetics book that any Christian should read. Rather than focusing on the arguments for Christianity, this book focuses on tactics or methods to use when discussing issues. While the book is tailored to use for Christian apologetics, the tactics apply to every kind of conversation or debate you might have when disagreeing with another person. The reason I recommend this book so highly is for two reasons. One is that most people focus so heavily on intellectual arguments that they lose sight of the person they are talking to. As a result, they often give people a negative perception of Christianity, even if they do "win" the argument. The second reason is that the book uses a lot of simple and basic apologetic arguments to illustrate the tactics being discussed. I think this would be really helpful for people who are just starting to defend Christianity and are not well aware of all the intellectual challenges. This book starts to give them a small base of knowledge to build from.On most topics, I like and agree with the author, Greg Koukl; however, some things he says bother me. Regardless, I loved this book and think it is very non-controversial for Christians. I really cannot recommend this book highly enough. If you are a Christian, you need to read and probably even occasionally re-read this book!
