About book Sweetest Taboo (2012)

3 1/2 stars. I am so torn about my feelings regarding Sweetest Taboo. With 2 young daughters...my hackles were at an all time high. The subject matter is absolutely taboo...On the other hand, I was intrigued by the story. I wondered what would happen...fearful and anxious the entire time that they would get caught. I couldn't put it down and had to know how things would end. I didn't expect Isabel to have those doubts at the end...I didn't expect those details about Tom to be revealed...I didn't expect a damn cliff hanger either!!! I have to read the second book to find out how it all ends. After starting her freshmen year of high school, fifteen year-old Isabel Cruz, meets Mr. Stevens and there's an undeniable attraction between them. As her sophomore year begins, Isabel signs up for the swimming team only to find out that her new coach is Mr. Stevens. What starts out as innocent flirting soon turns into a serious relationship. In her junior year, Isabel loses her virginity and heart to Tom and protects him from authorities. And by her senior year, their relationship is in ruins.I admit, student-teacher affairs books are one of my guilty pleasure reads so when I came across Sweetest Taboo, I knew I had to read it. This was one of those books where I knew I shouldn't like it but I did. It was fast paced and their love was sweet and captivated me. I couldn't put it down. However, I did struggle with it a bit and that's because Mr. Stevens isn't your typical teacher, he's also a husband and a father of two. I felt as if he should have known what was right and wrong. But he was gentle and sweet with Isabel and never pressured her into doing anything. Isabel's behaviors and decisions were immature and selfish at times. By the end, she had matured a bit and did what was best for her. This is a controversial love story so it's not for everyone.*I received Sweetest Taboo for review and all opinions are my own. *
