About book Sweet Tooth, Vol. 4: Endangered Species (2012)
Now that the year is winding to a close and my 2013 Reading Challenge as well, I find myself reviewing the books I read this year. I can't believe I forgot to log this, since this was one of the better presents I got last Christmas. My brother sure knows to pick the comics that I would enjoy.Although I would have wanted to start at an earlier volume, the fourth volume is as good as any as a catch on point to Jeff Lemire's Sweet Tooth. I really like the post-apocalyptic vibe of this title which reminds me of Y, The Last Man since it seem that these two books are all about a boy finding his place in a new world with his bodyguard/protector.I started and finished this book on the flight home from Manila. The pacing is excellent, Lemire never allows his story wander off meaninglessly. As for knowing what happened in the previous volumes, that isn't really a problem, there's a recap before this collection starts. Never trust a nice guy in the apocalypse- that's the one thing I've learned in all these books. People are the enemy and will always try to take anything good and destroy it. And this is exactly how I felt about Walter when we met him. Again, this is a quick read full of ugliness, but little Gus is the secret to this world. I can't wait to find out what he is and how his birth may have caused the plague. Alaska, here we come...but I fear the next volume will get uglier before it gets better.

I had read an earlier one, but the series didn't grab me, but it has started to grow on me.
