About book Sweet Tooth – Depois Do Apocalipse, Vol. 6: Jogo Selvagem (2014)

Sweet Tooth finally comes to an end here, and with it comes a whole pot of mixed feelings. I'd put off the final volume for a good long time, just because the series is a real downer, and I didn't want to be bummed out by the far too likely deaths of half of the cast. So here I am, and sure enough, it's a bitter pill. I never really bought into the villain, and his included back story didn't really help me in that regard. It was also hard to feel the weight of the various characters' deaths when I never got a good feeling for them in the first place. The reveal was a bit underwhelming, and the story was a huge downer, but it ends on a strong note that at least tucks itself in. The art is fantastic, creating a dialogue with the script that can only be captured with the same man in both chairs, and Jeff Lemire understands the art of the comic on a fundamental level that lends a lot of credit to the series. I'm left terribly conflicted here, but I'm glad I saw it through. I've been waiting for the end of this for a while. Finally got around to reading it and must say that I wasn't disappointed. This would make a good mini series or movie. There were multiple false endings and the final one was a little sappy but all in all the whole series deserved an ending such as this. Not spoiling it for anyone but this was a fun read. Not for babies or children, though. Teens and preteens who can handle more realist violence may be okay. But hey, that's your call. The themes are more complex so there may be some handholding and explaining to do if you are so inclined. It will challenge many adults assumptions about the environment and humankind's place in it. So, unless you are willing to go through it with your kid, it may be better left as a good read for yourself.I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Margaret Atwood's scifi in a heartbeat. In some ways, I prefer this to Oryx and Crake. It hits some of the same themes without heavy reliance on science. Anyways, there it is.
